Interesting cancel. In Schleswig-Holstein? Is this now in Denmark because of the 1920 Schleswig plebicite? I don't think so, but "Norburg" was clearly in Germany in 1888.

It's a global gazeteer.
But nothing matching that Rumanian cancel. Given the date it has to be either in Moldavia or Wallachia - Rumania lost Bessarabia to the Russians in 1878, and didn't gain Transylvania until 1919 so an 1897 cancel (I think??) has to be somewhere in the "Old Kingdom"

DeleteHello, Jim! Concerning the 25 bani 'Ear of wheat' violet postage stamp, I know that it was issued in 1894, and I guess the year on your postmark is 1896. The name 'Bucuresci' was changed into 'București' (Bucharest) in 1904, when the orthographic reformation of the Romanian language took place (the diacritics were introduced; eg 'ș'). Cătălin
ReplyDeleteCatalin and blogdetimbrofil, the best blog out of Romania, and all of Europe for that matter, has cleared the confusion. So Bucharest (Bucuresci prior to 1904) it is!
