Kimble's August Postmark Calendar

Kimble's August Calendar
Into the Deep Blue
As a collaborative project, Dan and I are presenting a postmark calendar for all 366 possible days of the year, represented by interesting appropriate date cancellation stamps from the Kimble collection.

We are publishing, during 2017, a monthly blog post with the date postmarks for that month for everyone's enjoyment.

The introduction, dedication, and links to the other months that have been published, is included with the January post.

  1. Hm some very nice stamps shown here but can't be of lot of help this month.

    August 14
Might be Rotterdam? (on the right side of the stamps "RO and the last letter a part of M?"

August 26 indeed Antwerp - I tried to identify the text after Anvers which starts with "BAS..." is it better readable on the real stamp than on a scan? Just curiosity from my part since I'm from Antwerp ;-)

  2. The stamp for 18th August (Ponta Delgada) is actually for the 18th October (Outubro in Portuguese)

    2. Well, I had seven Aug 18th postmark stamps to make a choice from the fabulous Kimble collection. !

I replaced the erroneous Oct 18th Ponta Delgata with one from Egypt with the correct Aug 18th!

  3. Hello, Jim! It's already August? :) I'll try my best with 2 postmarks. The first is for Aug. 13rd - I guess is Galetta, a rural community in western Ontario, on the Mississippi River. The second is for Aug. 31st - I guess is Accrington, a small town in the Hyndburn borough of Lancashire, England. Regards, Cătălin

  4. I think the Russian one for Aug 30 may be Dvinsk, now Daugavpils, Lithuania. Cyrillic transliteration comes in handy again!

  5. Hi Jim, I think 19th August could be Bath. 31st August is I suspect Faringdon not Accrington. It probably isn't Farringdon in London as London doesn't get a mention but Faringdon in Oxfordshire.

I am planning a similar exercise with my clearly postmarked stamps and I am reviewing your delightful posts!

    Regards, Crispin

  6. Hi Jim, I was reviewing this very enjoyable serties of posts as I'm thinking of doing a similar thing. I have a couple of comments that may be helpful. 10th August is a lovely clear French TPO postmark - I wish all mine were as clear as that! I'm pretty sure 19th August is Bath. I don't think 31st August is Accrington, I think it's Faringdon in Oxfordshire. It could be Farringdon in London but the lack of any mention of London makes me think it probably isn't. Best wishes, Crispin
